Geography
Neustadt is located northeast of Nordhausen in the southern Harz and belongs to the administrative community Hohenstein / South Harz.

The neighboring municipalities are Harztor, Herrmannsacker, Buchholz, Nordhausen, Harzungen.
History
In 1372, the municipality is called " Novenstadt " (from the Latin novus "new") first mentioned. 1485 allowed the place to build a town hall and Roland statue erect a sign of jurisdiction. A large fire destroyed Neustadt am September 10, 1678 almost completely; only three houses survived the disaster.
In the 19th century, the tourism developed. 1870 Kurhaus and eight years later a bath house was built. In 1887 Hermann operational Kronberg a sanatorium on the basis of a natural healing process. Since 1890, Neustadt health resort may call.
With the unification with the neighboring community of Osterode in 1952 Neustadt the first time exceeded the number of inhabitants of 1000th

Culture and sights
The near and far of Neustadt is rich in tourist attractions, all of which are accessible by hiking trails. Of the three ruins the ruins of Hohenstein as one of the oldest systems of the whole resin is significant at the. Also worthwhile is a visit to the recently renovated, monumental Trinkwassertalsperre Neustadt ( often referred to as Nordhäuser dam ), which is only about six kilometers from the village. A boating lake and a separate forest pool complete the picture. It is close to the Poppberg is (601 m above sea level. NN ), with the already high resin begins.

Economy and infrastructure
