Haus der Bayerischen Geschichte

The House of Bavarian History ( HdBG ) was established in 1983 as an authority of the State of Bavaria to life and has been since September 1993 based in Augsburg. 6 October 1998, it was incorporated into the Bavarian State Ministry of Sciences, Research and the Arts. The HdBG was from 1983 to 1998 part of the Bavarian State Chancellery in Munich. The management of the company has since 2007 Richard Loibl. Predecessor was Claus Grimm ( line 1983-2007 ).

Tasks

The duties of the House of Bavarian History are mainly:

  • Make the historical and cultural diversity Bavaria all levels of society, especially the younger generation, in all parts of the country accessible to
  • Represent cultural framework - the total rule of Bavaria and the development of state and society to the present day in the historical - political
  • To promote the awareness of history and to maintain and thereby make the historical heritage for the future of the Free State of Bavaria in the German and European framework fertile.

These objectives are to be achieved mainly through the annual Bavarian State Exhibition, through mobile exhibitions in all parts of the country, by historical lectures, publications and film documentaries.

Furthermore, a comprehensive picture archive is to be created for the Bavarian history. It is intended as a reference archive gather image sources Bavarian history and ask for historical research. For some time, it also concerns the planned Museum of the Bavarian history are taken into account.

The image archive currently comprises nearly 350,000 materials: photographs, negatives, slides, video films, digital media, historical postcards, posters and graphics (as of 2011). Selected stocks shows the image archive into an online image database. The House of the Bavarian history was responsible for the selection of the site for the Museum of Bavarian history.
