Haut-Lomami District

Upper Lomami (Original title: Skin Lomami ) is a district in the Democratic Republic of Congo with 1.3 million inhabitants. It is part of the province of Katanga. Capital of Upper Lonami is Kamina.

History

According to the administrative reclassification of the country, which was provided for in the Constitution of 2005, top Lonami should get the province status. As one of the 26 provinces, the area should get an independent management and private regional parliament. In January 2011 this reform, however, was virtually canceled by a controversial constitutional amendment by President Joseph Kabila. This upper Lomami remains for the time being still a minor district of Katanga province.
