Haute-Saône

The Haute- Saône [ Otso ː n] ( officially Département de la Haute -Saône ) is a French department of order number 70 It is in the east of the country in the region of Franche -Comté. Its name derives from the Saône River.

Geography

The department comprises the northern part of the former Franche-Comté. It is bordered on the north by the department of Vosges in Lorraine, on the east by the Territoire de Belfort, the 1871 French remaining part of Alsace, on the south by the department of Doubs and the Jura, also from the free county adult, on the southwest by the department of Côte- d 'Or, part of the Burgundy region, and to the northwest by the department of Haute- Marne, part of the Champagne-Ardenne region.

The northern part of the department occupy the southern foothills of the Vosges. There arises the Saône, which specifies the name of the department and this flows in a southwesterly direction.

Economy

The department is dominated by agriculture, almost half of its area taken up by arable and pasture land, another third is covered by forest. Known dairy products in the region are the Comté cheese and Morbier cheese with the famous ash strips.
