HÃ¥vard Wiik

Håvard Wiik ( born March 10, 1975 in Free, Kristiansund ) is a Norwegian jazz pianist, arranger and composer

Håvard Wiik became known in 1992 for his performance at the Molde International Jazz Festival and studied from 1994 to 1996 at the Trondheim Music Conservatory, where he played with bassist Ingebrigt Haker Flaten and Paal Nilssen -Love drummer in the trio element. With Flaten, Love, and the Swedish artists Magnus Broo and Fredrik Ljungkvist he founded in 1999 the formation Atomic. With Flaten he also plays in the trio of Ken Vandermark ( Furnace, 2002) and in a duo with tenor saxophonist Håkon Kornstad on the album Eight Tunes We Like ( 2003). In addition, Wiik worked at Arild Andersen, Karin Krog, Petter Wettre (Pig Virus, 1996) and with international artists such as Chris Potter, Mark Turner and Iain Ballamy.

Viik is currently working with his Håvard Wiik Trio with bassist Mats Eilertsen and drummer Per Oddvar Johansen and took for the label Jazzland album Postures (2003) on. He has received numerous awards in Norway, most recently in 2006 the Vital pinches on the Kongsberg Jazz Festival.
