Havelock, New Zealand

Havelock is a small town with less than 1000 inhabitants in New Zealand. It is named after the British General Henry Havelock and was founded in 1860. The population was the Census 2006 486 inhabitants, an increase of 12 residents since 2001. State Highway 6 runs through the village, three kilometers to the east is the small settlement Moenui.

Havelock is located in the north of the South Island in New Zealand's Marlborough region at the end of the Pelorus Sound and is the starting point of various tours in the remote areas of the Marlborough Sounds. Was Havelock earlier export port and served as a supply base for loggers and gold miners, it now has a marina and has become the center of New Zealand shellfish.
