The operation of these sections is temporarily completely paralyzed. The former stretch of Ayrılıkçeşme after Haydarpaşa is permanently shut down. In the overall network of the station Yedikule and southeast of the newly formed S-Bahn station Ayrılıkçeşme be relocated west 40 stations, or new or expanded, including seven by Intercity stop; three tunnel stations built on the historical peninsula east of Yedikule new. The tunnel connection between Europe and Asia is open for passenger transport and not affected by the restrictions.

History

1955, the first tram line was opened on the European side of the city ( by October 2013 B1). She used since then into town from Halkalı the route of the old Orient Express. In 1969, the second S -Bahn line was opened ( by October 2013 B2 ) from Haydarpaşa, the starting station of the Baghdad Railway. The second line was necessary because in their line path in a southeasterly direction along the coast from the late 1960s created more and more suburbs, which had to be connected via a powerful connection to the ferry to the European side of the city as a daily commuter flow to the European side blew up the capacity of the two Bosphorus bridges.

Line network

The two lines B1 and B2 before October 29, 2013; '' B '' stands for '' Banliyö Treni '':

After the completion of Marmaraytunnels the distance between Kazlicesme (Europe) and Ayrilikçeşme / İbrahimağa (Asia) will initially only from S-Bahn trains - driven on at 13.4 km long Bosporus tunnel - and without mixed traffic with long-distance trains. To the west and east of the stations the train operation is suspended until the conclusion of the modernization reconstruction of the 60 km long outer branches.

On October 29, 2013, the S-Bahn operation began between stations Kazlicesme in the west and Ayrilikçeşme / İbrahimağa in the east. East of the station are located above ground Kazlicesme the trains in the Marmaraytunnel. On the European side of the tunnel stations Yenikapı and Sirkeci are first approached. In Yenikapı soon a connection to the subway lines M1A, M1B and M2 of the Istanbul Metro will be possible. The tunnels and stations for it are finished. In Sirkeci can be switched to the tram line T1, which connects the ferry terminal Kabataş with the historical peninsula and Zeytinburnu. From here the train crosses the Bosphorus to the tunnel tubes on the ocean floor and reached on the Asian side of the station Üsküdar, where is currently being built at the opening in 2015 Metro line M5. At the provisional terminus Ayrilikçeşme already a interchange with Metro line M4. The stations Üsküdar and Ayrilikçeşme are tunnel stations.

Importance of the Marmaray project to transport S -Bahn

By October 2013, the inner-city high-speed rail networks of the European and Asian side of Istanbul were separated by the Bosphorus. Transcontinental connections between the transport rail networks of the city were made by local Buses, Metrobüs and the ferries. With the coupling of the two S -Bahn lines, the first high-performance high-speed rail connection between the two halves of the city was realized, which is to help the everyday (professional) commuting significantly facilitate and shorten. In the 4- minute intervals the trains connect the 13.6 km long railway tunnel Europe with Asia. 1.4 km of tunnels lie at the bottom of the Bosphorus. The attractiveness of transport train is expected to increase by shortening the travel time by 56 minutes ( compared to the ferry ) in Istanbul clearly the one hand, numerous bus routes, on the other hand, important for the development of the historical peninsula and the western suburbs tram line T1, and the metro lines are obtained from 2014 transfer stations to the S- Bahn line. The metro lines thereby get an even more important function for feeder then transcontinental train system, which will remain until further notice the only fast rail connection between the two halves of the city.
