The HEC Lausanne ( École des Hautes Études Commerciales ) is the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Lausanne. The courses meet all the Bologna system: it can be acquired degrees in two Bachelor of Sciences and in six Masters of Sciences; Moreover, there are various Executive MBA and Ph.D. programs. The Faculty received the AMBA and EQUIS accreditations for the excellence of teaching.

History

In 1890 a university was founded in Lausanne. Economics was taught at the law school. Its founding period was marked by Léon Walras (1834-1910), founder of the Lausanne school in economics and inventor of general equilibrium theory, as well as by Vilfredo Pareto (1848-1923), the developer of Pareto optimization.

On April 15, 1911 Léon Morf and Georges Paillard founded the " Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales " ( HEC) within the Faculty of Law. In the same year, the university welcomed its first 12 students of economics. Léon Morf, a professor of business administration, accounting and financial mathematics was its first director, followed by Georges Paillard.

Courses

Bachelor Program ( undergraduate )

The Bachelor program of HEC Lausanne consists of three modules, which extend over three academic years. Possible semester including repetitions is the maximum duration of study for a Bachelor's degree five years. With the summer semester in the second year can be selected, depending on the aptitude and interest of two specializations that upon successful completion, leads to the following academic titles:

  • BSc in Management
  • BSc in Economics

The first two years of the bachelor's program are very selective, especially the first year with a failure rate of 70%. The bachelor's program is open to all high school graduates who can demonstrate an appropriate Maturaabschluss in Switzerland or an equivalent high school diploma.
