Hector Ruiz

Ruiz received his bachelor's degree in 1968 and his master's degree in electrical engineering at the University of Texas, Austin. In 1973 he received his doctorate at Rice University for Ph. D. In 1975, he received the U.S. citizenship.

In 2000, he joined AMD in as President and Chief Operating Officer in April 2002, he was the successor of AMD founder Jerry Sanders III as Chief Executive Officer. In 2004, he took over the post of Chairman of the Board. In July 2008, he was forced to resign as CEO due to poor corporate figures, and was succeeded by Dirk Meyer.

Ruiz initially remained as Chairman of AMD. As part of the spin-off of Fertigungsabteiligung as a separate company, he was appointed in March 2009 as Chairman of the newly established semiconductor foundry Globalfoundries.

In November 2009, GlobalFoundries announced the resignation submitted in September by Héctor Ruiz and his leave of absence as Chairman. Ruiz is accused of being involved in a scandal over insider dealing ( " Galleon scandal " ) ..
