Heikki Liimatainen (athlete)

Heikki Liimatainen ( born March 14, 1894 in Saarijärvi, † December 24, 1980 in Porvoo ) was a Finnish athlete.

Heikki Liimatainen took at the Olympic Games in 1920 and 1924 respectively in part on cross-country running. In 1920 he was ranked 3 and thus won the bronze medal in the individual competition as well as gold in the team competition along with Paavo Nurmi and Teodor Koskenniemi. In 1924, he was ranked 12 in the singles competition and won gold in the team competition along with Paavo Nurmi, and Ville Ritola.

The race in 1924, at the started of 38 runners, only 15 finished the race, took place at temperatures of 45 degrees and more. It is now called the 'Sun Battle of Colombes. Thanks to the placements of Nurmi ( 1 ) and Ritola ( 2 ) filed Liimatainen arriving at the destination, to repeat his team gold in 1920.
