Heinrich Beitzke

Heinrich Beitzke (* February 15, 1798 in Muttrin, † May 10 1867 in Koszalin, full name Heinrich Ludwig Beitzke ) was a German military writer.

Beitzke was the son of a pastor. He died when Henry Beitzke was five years old. Heinrich Beitzke then grew up poor on, first attended the village school, then received instruction from the village pastor and was taken in 1811 by a clergyman in Kolberg, where he attended secondary school. He was then forced in 1813 the service of a court clerk. A small inheritance enabled him in the spring of 1815 to join as a volunteer fighter in the Prussian army and take part in the campaign against France.

In September 1815 he was appointed as an officer cadet in the 4th Pomeranian regiment of the line. After the peace agreement, he remained in the army. He attended military schools to Koblenz and Mainz, then, in 1817 promoted to second lieutenant, the General Military Academy in Berlin, was used from 1823 to 1826 at the topographic work of the General Staff and was from 1828 to 1836 taught at the school division in Stargard in Pomerania. He was first lieutenant in 1831, 1839 promoted to captain. The end of 1845 he resigned because of continuing ill health as a major.

After his retirement from the army he moved to Pomerania and devoted himself to the literary activity. His works, the first of his History of the German Wars of Liberation in 1813 and 1814 in three volumes, were popular in their time and found recognition. Beitzke was approved by the University of Jena, Dr. phil. doctorate and distinguished by the Grand Duke of Weimar with the House Order of the White Falcon.

Since 1858 he was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives, where he stayed for Progress Party and distinguished himself during the conflict period especially in the negotiation of the military reorganization as a speaker. In the 1858 federal election he was elected for the constituency of Anklam. In the 1862 federal election he was elected even in four constituencies and accepted the election for the electoral district of Hamm- Soest. He died on 10 May 1867 in Koszalin.
