Heinrich Hansen

Heinrich Hansen ( born October 13, 1861 in Klockries at Lindholm, † April 17, 1940 in Breklum ) was a Protestant pastor and founder of the High Church Association.

Life

Heinrich Hansen was born in Klockries at Lindholm in North Friesland, the son of a teacher.

Hansen studied theology in Kiel and Erlangen, Hebrew, Syriac, Arabic, and Old Testament at August Klostermann. Since 1887, he worked as a pastor in Schleswig -Holstein, where he was responsible for the parishes in Reinfeld, Lindholm, Pellworm, in Kropp and in Olderup at Husum. His retirement, he spent 1930 in Husum, since 1937 Breklum, where he died.

Ecclesiastical commitment

Hansen wrote Latin hymns and advocated for the use of the Low German language in worship and preaching. He worked on a Low German translation of the Bible, and gave out a Low German hymnal.

By studying the old Lutheran theologians, especially of Martin Chemnitz, and the Catholic theologian Johann Adam Mohler Hansen came to a Protestant- Catholic view of church and gave to the Reformation jubilee in 1917 with his work stimuli et clavi ( kebabs and nails) 95 Theses in Latin and German out who practiced a sharp criticism of the then Protestantism because of the " drop of the catholicity ". This gave, among others, led to the founding of the High Church Association in October 1918, the co-founder and first chairman was Hansen. He is one of the most important pioneers of both the church renewal movement in German Protestantism as the Church's unity movement.
