Heinrich Schweiger

Heinrich Schweiger ( born July 23, 1931 in Vienna, † July 14, 2009 in Salzburg ) was an Austrian actor.

Life

Schweiger graduated from the Max -Reinhardt-Seminar in 1947 and gave his debut in The Wonder Bar by Karl Farkas at the New Theatre. In 1948 he first appeared at the Theater in der Josefstadt on. On September 21, 1949, he had in The Captain from Köpenick his first appearance at the Burgtheater, whose ensemble he belonged henceforth.

In 1956 he was engaged at the Bavarian State Theatre in Munich and later at the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus. Since 1961, Schweiger played again at the Burgtheater and became one of its most striking performers. He has played the title characters of Othello, Richard III. , Don Carlos ( with Werner Krauss as acquisition of Oskar Werner) and Götz von Berlichingen, Puntila in Puntila and his Man Matti, but also the Doolittle in the musical My Fair Lady.

At the Salzburg Festival he played twelve years the devil or Mammon. In 1960 he played at the Luisenburg Festival in Wunsiedel Titus Fire fox in Nestroy " The Talisman " (directed by Gustav Manker ). Schweiger guested on various other platforms and also introduced several times to direct myself.

In feature films Heinrich Schweiger could prove itself in very different productions. He usually played prominent figures such as Emperor Napoleon in two landladies movies or the Pope in The Elixirs of the Devil. He convinced both in musical comedies such as pediatrician Dr. Frohlich as superior by Roy Black as well as in ambitious productions like Trotta. In the Bockerer film series he played the Soviet Supreme Novotny. '

Schweiger was since 1983 in his third marriage with the District Chairperson Vienna -Innere Stadt Ursula Stenzel married. A few days before his 78th birthday, he died on 14 July 2009 a cardiovascular failure due to a brain hemorrhage. On 27 August 2009, he was buried in an honorary grave in devoted Ehrenhain (Group 40 ) of the Vienna Central Cemetery.

Awards

Excellent the Kammerschauspieler Schweiger was among others in 1967 with the Kainz Medal, and also with the Austrian Honorary Cross for Science and Art, First Class, the Golden Medal of Honour of the capital, Vienna, and the honorary membership at the Burgtheater. In 2003 he received the honorary title of Professor.
