Helium Vola

Helium Vola is a medieval electronic band consisting of Ernst Horn and Sabine Lutz Berger.

History

Helium Vola was founded in 2001 by Ernst Horn after he had left the previous project Qntal. Horn was in the contract with the record company that Helium Vola should not be viewed as Qntal successor or marketed as such. The band's name is Latin and means "Helium, fly! " - An allusion to the noble gas helium, which is also used to make balloons fly.

Helium Vola consists of your minions musician Ernst Horn and the classically trained singer Sabine Lutz Berger ( previously at the Ensemble for Early Music Augsburg). In addition, several singers and instrumentalists are used in the shooting also mostly classical background for use.

Style

Helium Vola interpreted medieval poetry in the Old and Middle High German, Latin, Italian, Provencal and medium French in a modern, electronic sound environment. Both very danceable songs like the single result in lighter color of the forest as well as pieces that rely heavily on samples is included (such as Funerali and Iuvenes on Helium Vola ).

All albums by Helium Vola understood as concept albums with a continuous theme. The album Helium Vola discussed with largely medieval texts and messages samples the sinking of the nuclear submarine K -141 Kursk. Has Liod ( Old High German for " song" ) as a theme the life of a woman in medieval times.

Here, the first CD of this double album refers to the personal aspects, while the second turns to more abstract concepts. The two settings of Petrarch sonnets in modern madrigal style show a clear reference to Monteverdi, who is a musical role model for Ernst Horn.

Others

In 2001, published his first album was one of the first CDs with copy protection (notably DOC.loc ). She was therefore not playable on PCs and on some audio devices ( eg car radios, which were based on the cheap CD -ROM drives). Later editions contained no copy protection; partly CDs were exchanged with copy protection.
