Ernst Horn

Ernst Horn (* 1949 in Munich) is a German musician and was instrumental in the founding of the band Deine Lakaien, Qntal and Helium Vola.

Life and work

Ernst Horn studied conducting, piano and percussion at the music academies of Munich, Freiburg and Hamburg and worked as Kapellmeister at the Staatstheater Karlsruhe and Oldenburg as well as a theater pianist and composer at the Bavarian State Theatre in Munich. In 1985 he gave up his conductor's career in order to gain a foothold beyond the opera business as a composer and specialist in electronic music. With Alexander Veljanov he founded in the same year Deine Lakaien. The band is his most known project and learns about the German national borders fame and wide acclaim. Ernst Horn has worked his main job as a musician and composer of electronic music as well as a theater musician and composer for radio plays.

With its electronic, always structured compositions Horn has created an idiosyncratic style that distinctively sets itself apart from the mainstream. He won with his first solo release, the song " Solitary", 1988 Reader Tape Contest of Keyboard Magazine. Most are found in Horn electronic elements in combination with other compositional styles and / or samples. One example is the radio play "Greed Freedom", in which the medieval hymn style is associated with voice samples. Also evident in this piece the interest of horn, take up political and societal issues. Another element that is used here is the embedding of children's voices. This stylistic device is found in horn repeatedly, such as on the album Helium Vola " Liod ", or in the play " Night" showing the humorous side of this artist.

In order compositions for the Neue Philharmonie Frankfurt ( " mirror Arias", 2009) and as part of the Bach Festival Leipzig ( " BACH - Alternative Compositions on Historical Basics ", 2012 ) linked horn works by old masters such as GF Handel and JS Bach with his own compositions, whose roots are due to the new music.

Together with Niemiecki Stieg he went in 2007 on an extended book tour and convinced here as sharply observant essayist.

Ernst Horn lives and works in Graefelfing near Munich.
