Helmut Kickton

Helmut Kickton ( born June 28, 1956 in Cologne ) is a German church musician.

Life and work

Helmut Kickton was born in Cologne, the son of a lawyer and publishing family and is the grandson of Hermann Kickton and Ewald Schawe. He is related to the church architect Arthur Kickton, the composer Erika Kickton, the chemist Louis Arthur Kickton and the author Thomas Le Blanc. Ancestors of Church Music active were the Königsberg Cantor Georg Riedel and song poet Jakob Ebert. He is married to the church musician Doris Kickton.

After school and civil service he studied Protestant church music at the Robert -Schumann -Hochschule in Dusseldorf with Hans -Dieter Möller and Hartmut Schmidt. He put the A-exam from 1986 with awards in organ improvisation and music history. In a subsequent ten-year training period, he acquired self-taught basic skills in the game of the essential string and wind instruments, including flute, oboe, clarinet, alto saxophone and trumpet as well as in falsetto vocals.

As a publisher of free sheet music (Free Sheet Music ) on the Internet, he earned a worldwide reputation. His opened in 2002 Kantorei archive now includes more than 10000 touch (PDF) files for choir, chorus and orchestra, orchestras, brass, recorders, chamber music, organ and bagpipes. The focus of the archive lies in works of the Baroque for choir and orchestra. The present material comprises predominantly alongside some Urtext editions for practical use furnished spending. The edits are made in Baroque works of sacred music often from a fit to modern choral ensembles through logrolling and transposition. In a cappella compositions, arrangements find a elaborated instrumentation and pre-and interludes, partly in the form of a pastiche. The music editions consist of scores, individual voices and elaborate basso. The number of downloads per year was in August 2006, more than four million files, the notes are also available on the Choral Public Domain Library ( CPDL ).
