Karfunkelsalmler feed on worms, small crustaceans and plant material. They spawn between fine-leaved plants. The fry hatch after 20 to 24 hours and swim freely after 3 to 4 days.

The unassuming, peaceful schooling fish are straightforward to keep in the aquarium, but the offspring is not easy. The beauty of animals in an aquarium is best appreciated when the incident light is attenuated by floating plants.
