Henrique Lopes de Mendonça

Henrique Lopes de Mendonça (pronounced Mendonssa ) ( born February 12, 1856 in Lisbon; † August 24, 1931 ) was a Portuguese poet, playwright and naval officer. He is also known that he wrote the text for composed by his friend Alfredo Keil later Portuguese National Anthem A Portuguesa.

He was married to the daughter of the painter Manuel Bordalo Pinheiro and had three children.
