Alfredo Keil
Alfredo Keil ( born July 8, 1854 in Lisbon, † October 4, 1907 in Hamburg) was a Portuguese composer, painter and collector Portuguese art. Wedge is famous as a composer of Portuguese National Anthem (A Portuguesa ).
Journey

Artistic work

Music
Wedge was musically a loner outgoing romance. In close contact he stood among others with composers such as Giuseppe Verdi, Giacomo Puccini, Pietro Mascagni and Massenet, he has also dedicated his successful opera " Serrana ". The opera Donna Bianca was a huge commercial success in Portugal and Europe. Wedge was then Europe is a welcome guest at nobles and kings.

However, his best-known work is the song "A Portuguesa ", which was the Portuguese national anthem later. Henrique Lopes de Mandonça wrote the lyrics. The 1890-1891 composed patriotic song had its origin in a strong nationalist movement that Portugal had taken during this period. The cause was a British ultimatum.
