Henry Amike

Henry Amike ( born October 4, 1961) is a former Nigerian athlete who had specialized in the 400 - meter hurdles.

Career

Amike occupied in the 400 - meter hurdles at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles eighth. A week later he won at the Africa Athletics Championships in Rabat over the same distance the silver medal behind the Senegalese Amadou Dia Ba, who had finished fifth in Los Angeles. Also at the Track Championships Africa 1985 in Cairo, he only had to concede defeat Dia Ba.

The Pan-African Games in 1987 in Nairobi Amike won the bronze medal and reached a little later at the IAAF World Championships in Rome in sixth place. In 1988 he was at the African Cup of Athletics in Annaba once again second behind the winning Amadou Dia Ba. At the Olympic Games in Seoul, he was a member of the Nigerian 4 x 400 - meter relay team that finished seventh there.

At the Track - Africa Championships in 1989 in Lagos Amike finally succeeded on home soil winning the title in the 400 - meter hurdles.
