Henry Carlsson

Nils Gustav Henry " Garvis " Carlsson ( born October 27, 1917 in Falköping; † 28 May 1999 Solna ) was a Swedish football player and coach.

Career

Playing career

Carlsson played for IK Göta and Falköpings GIS. He made his debut for AIK Solna in a 3-2 win over Sandvikens IF on 3 September 1939 in the Allsvenskan. Until 1948, he played 192 top-flight appearances for the club, scoring 97 goals.

1948 Carlsson moved to RC Paris, where he spent one season. Here he won the French Cup winners. He then moved on to Atletico Madrid in the Primera División. With the club he was twice Spanish masters. In 1953 he ended his active career and returned to Sweden.

Carlsson grazed 1941-1949 more than 26 times the Swedish national team and scored 17 international goals. At the Olympic Games in 1948 he was one of the choices with spectacular football - and was able to convince the gold medal with a 3-1 final victory over Yugoslavia won - 22 goals in four games. After his move to Spain - to France, he was still officially been amateur - he was not appointed as the Swedish Association rejected the professionalism and accordingly pro player is not taken into account.

Coaching career

Carlsson was initially a youth coach at AIK. In 1956 he took over the men's team, which he managed for the duration of a season. In 1958 he went to Sundbybergs IK, where he returned in the first two years as player-coach back on the playing field. 1964 ended this commitment and he took over again until 1966 AIK. 1969 to 1971 he was responsible for IF Brommapojkarna. This was his last coaching position.
