Henry Ephron

Henry Ephron ( born May 26, 1911 in New York City; † September 6, 1992 in Los Angeles ) was an American novelist, screenwriter and film producer.

Life

The son of a retailer studied 1929-1933 at Cornell University. After graduating Henry Ephron worked as stage manager for several theaters. Since 1934 he worked together with his wife Phoebe Ephron as a solid writing team together, both for the stage - first success with Three's a Family - and for the cinema. Both family comedy Take Her She's Mine in 1961 by Henry Koster filmed it a great success on Broadway and in the year with James Stewart in the lead role.

Ephron film manuscripts, created initially on behalf of Warner Bros., supplied mainly comedies and film musicals of the late 1940s and 1950s, rare crime films such as 23 steps to the abyss and romances like A certain smile. His employer in his most important creative period, the 1950s, was the 20th Century Fox. In the second half of the 1950s, Henry Ephron operated several times as a film producer. His only attempt Director Sing Sing Boy 1958 remained without response.

One of Ephron's daughters was the screenwriter and director Nora Ephron. Delia Ephron is also active in the film industry.
