Henry I of Werle

Henry I, Lord of Werle [- Güstrow ] (* 1245, † October 8, 1291 at Hall) murdered; was from 1277 to 1281 to Mr. Werle and 1281-1291 to Mr. Werle - Güstrow.

Life

After the death of his father Nicholas I in 1277, Henry I first ruled together with his brothers John I. and Bernhard I. on Werle. In 1281 it was decided to divide and Henry took control over the area Werle - Güstrow. He resided on the still existing castle Werle. In 1291 he was slain by his sons in the hunt. These have sought to protect their inheritance after the remarriage of his father. After his death his sons of Henry's nephew, Nicholas II was deposed and persecuted. This took over the government of the sub rule and thus united the rule of Werle. Henry was in his first marriage with Rikitsa Birgersdatter (around 1262 married ) and married to his second wife Matilda of Brunswick-Lüneburg around since 1291.
