Henry Litolff

Henry Charles Litolff ( born February 6, 1818 in London, † August 6, 1891 in Colombes ) was an English virtuoso pianist, composer and music publisher.

Life

Litolff received as a child piano lessons with Ignaz Moscheles. Since 1835, he was a piano teacher in Melun, near Paris. After a sensational concert in Paris in 1840, he undertook concert tours to Brussels, Leipzig, Dresden, Prague, Berlin and Amsterdam. 1841 to 1844 he was theater conductor in Warsaw. From 1847 to 1860 he lived in Brunswick, where he the led in 1856 by him in 1828 by Gottfried Martin Meyer ( † 1846) established, publishing its name - the Henry Litolff 's publishing house, under his stepson Theodor Litolff (* March 18, 1839; † March 10, 1912 ) 1864 Collection Litolff. After that, he lived as a pianist and composer in Paris.

Litolff composed three operas and several operettas, five concert symphonies for piano and orchestra, a violin concerto, an oratorio, two overtures, piano pieces and songs.

Henry Litolff dedicated a street in Braunschweig.
