Henry Lowry-Corry (1803–1873)

Henry Thomas Lowry - Corry ( born March 9, 1803 in Dublin, † March 5, 1873 in Bournemouth ) was a British politician of Irish origin.

Henry Thomas Lowry - Corry was born in March, the second son of Somerset Lowry - Corry, 2nd Earl Belmore and his wife Juliana Butler, Dublin, 1803. He studied at Christ Church College, a college of the University of Oxford, where he received his degree in 1823 (BA). From 1826, he belonged to the House of Commons for the constituency of Tyrone and took him there for the Conservative Party until his death in 1873. From 1834 to 1835 he held the office of Comptroller of the Household in the first government of Robert Peel. 1836 Lowry - Corry was admitted to the Privy Council. After he had been from 1841 to 1845 already Junior Lord of the Admiralty, he was now 1845 to 1846 and again from 1858 to 1859 First Secretary of the Admiralty. In March 1867, Lowry - Corry First Lord of the Admiralty, with seat in the cabinet, and retained the office until December 1868, when the government resigned.

Family

Lowry - Corry was since March 30, 1830 Harriet Anne Ashley -Cooper († March 25, 1868 ), the daughter of Cropley Ashley -Cooper, 6th Earl of Shaftesbury, married. The marriage had two sons:

  • Montagu William Lowry - Corry, 1st Baron Rowton (* October 8, 1838; † November 9, 1903 )
