Henry Pratt Fairchild

Henry Pratt Fairchild ( born August 18, 1880 in Dundee, Illinois, † October 2, 1956 in North Hollywood, California ) was an American sociologist and 26th President of the American Sociological Association.

Fairchild attended Doane College in Nebraska, where his father was a professor, to the Bachelor's exam in 1900. According to further studies at Yale University, he was just there in 1909, Ph.D. doctorate. After several years teaching at Yale University, he moved in 1919 to the New York University, where he taught as a professor of sociology from 1924 to 1951.

Fairchild was based on scientific Marxism and published various writings that led to controversy in the United States. He sat down especially critical with racism apart and conducted research on issues of demography.

Fairchild was from 1921 to 1925 the first President of the Population Association of America. In 1930 he was made an honorary Doctor of Doane College, 1936, he served as president of the American Sociological Association.
