Henry Taylor (racing driver)

Henry Taylor ( born December 16, 1932 in Shefford, Bedfordshire, † October 24, 2013 in Vallauris, France) was a British racing driver and businessman.

Career

The farmer Taylor was a member of the large amount of British car repair shop owners and farmers who were in the 1950s, happiness and a change in motor sport.

His Formula 1 debut, he celebrated the Grand Prix of Great Britain 1959 in Aintree on a Cooper T51 of the racing team of Reginald Parnell. Started from 21st place, the final score was for the 11th place. Of this he was not discouraged, although at the end of the 1950s already the decay of the era of pure privateer apparent - even if several vehicles were offered, it was only exceptionally competitive and the costs were hard to bear.

But Taylor did complete the feat, not like many of his countrymen "only" as a guest at his home Grand Prix (this time at Silverstone ) to start, but during the Formula 1 season 1960, at the races at Circuit Park Zandvoort, Reims, postage and Riverside for the Yeoman credit Racing Team to try. Again he started with a Cooper T51 and managed according to a seventh place in Zandvoort even a fourth place in Reims, which was quite impressive, but his best position in Formula 1 remained.

Although he drove yet another season on a Lotus 18/21 of the UDT Laystall Racing team, but had to realize after five races that he had neither the absolute class, nor the most reliable materials available.

Mid -1960s, he went several seasons with a Ford Cortina in the European Touring Car Championship in 1966 and moved permanently from racing back.

Later he worked as a manager for Ford After his retirement there, he moved to southern France, where he ran a business selling boats.

He died in October 2013 at a hospital in southern France.
