Herbert Mies

Herbert Mies ( born February 23, 1929 in Waldhof (Mannheim) ) is a German politician. He was from 1973 to 1990 chairman of the German Communist Party ( DKP).

Life

Herbert Mies was revolutionary educated at home, his father was until 1933 the KPD. After eight years of primary school, he attended a half years a teacher training college. In 1944 he was for his anti- fascist attitude - he refused to become a member of Nazi Organizations - expelled from school.

After the defeat of Nazism in 1945, Herbert Mies joined the union and became a member of the KPD. As an active functionary of the FDJ and later as a member of the Central Office of the FDJ he took from 1945 active and leading part in the struggle of the youth against remilitarisation. Herbert Mies studied from 1947 to 1949 at the Party School Karl Marx and 1956-1959 Social and Administrative Sciences. From 1961 to 1963 he served an apprenticeship as a typesetter.

From 1949 to 1953 he was a member of the Central Office until 1956 and Chairman of the FDJ illegal in West Germany. He was a member of the Central Committee since 1954 and since 1963 candidate and Secretary of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party. In 1954, Klaus Rainer Röhl with his help, the magazine students courier that worked in concrete 1957. In 1969 he became vice-chairman from 1973 to 1990, Herbert Mies Chairman of the DKP. In 1987 he was awarded the International Lenin Peace Prize.

After Herbert Mies in 1990 resigned as party chairman, he became involved as a volunteer until 1997, as chairman of the Mannheim discussion group history and politics, and was an honorary chairman of the Workers' Welfare Mannheim- Schönau.
