Herbert Wilberforce

Herbert William Wilberforce Wrangham ( born February 8, 1864 in Munich, † March 28, 1941 in London) was a British tennis player.

Life

Wilberforce took from 1882 to 1891 at the Wimbledon Championships in part. In individual he scored there in 1886 with the semi-finals his best result. In doubles, he won the following year, on the side of Patrick Bowes -Lyon the title. They defeated James Herbert Crispe and E. Barratt -Smith in three sets 7:5, 6:3 and 6:2. He also won in 1882 at the Sussex Championships and the Northern Association Championships and 1887 at the championships in Darlington. In 1895 he again reached the final of the double tournament of Wimbledon, this time on the side of Ernest Lewis. However, the two had to the brothers Wilfred and Herbert Baddeley beaten in four sets.

Wilberforce was 1929-1936 chairman of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. He died in 1941 at the age of 77 years in London's Kensington.
