Heretic (video game)

Heretic (English for heretic or heretics ) is a two-piece, based in a fantasy scenario computer game series which was developed in 1994 by Raven Software in cooperation with id Software.

Heretic was released in 1994 and was developed by id Software, first as shareware version released ( with the first episode, " City of the damned" ) and as a full version with three episodes. In 1996 the game by GT Interactive, under the title Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders ( v1.3 ) is regular with two other episodes in the trade. In addition, there were three levels, which are only accessible via a cheat ( E6M1 - E6M3 ). The patch for expansion with the new levels can be downloaded for free.

The game uses a modified version of the Doom engine, and was one of the first person shooter, in which the player had the opportunity to look up and down. From game design Heretic is very similar to Doom, it differs mainly by its fantasy scenario. A line with thematically related role-playing games is the inventory that allows one magic items to collect ( power-ups ) and apply them when needed.

The player slips into the skin of a nameless hero and must be using weapons like a crossbow and various magical ranged weapons to fight through various levels such as castles and dungeons, where he takes on creatures such as gargoyles, golems and undead knights in the way. Usually, the player must find different keys to make other areas accessible to the respective level until he has found the exit.

Although Heretic 2 continues the story loose, Heretic is already with witches: Beyond Heretic and Hexen 2 a trilogy.

The engine of Heretic and witches was first released on under a license for non- commercial use, and finally put in September 2008 under the free GPL license.

Heretic 2 was released in 1998 and published by Activision.

Unlike the first part, however, is at stake is no longer a first-person shooter, but a third-person shooter. Heretic 2 uses a modified version of the Quake 2 engine from id Software.

The player reprises the role of the name now mentioned Corvus to find a cure for a plague that has come over his home town of Silver Spring. His journey takes him there by diverse, contiguous areas such as swamps, caves, castles and Silver Spring itself This one is partially engaged on from the first part known weapons and various spells back to be infested with various creatures, but also by the disease elves to defend.
