Herman "Roscoe" Ernest III

Villere Herman " Roscoe " Ernest III ( born August 12, 1951 † March 7, 2011 in New Orleans) was an American rhythm and blues drummer.

Life and work

Ernest was a longtime member of the music scene of New Orleans and began his career in radio groups; The mid-1970s he played in productions by Allen Toussaint as Patti LaBelle disco hit Lady Marmalade. He also recorded with Lee Dorsey ( Night People, 1978), the Neville Brothers ( Fiyo on the Bayou, 1981), Irma Thomas, Aaron Neville, Maceo Parker, Solomon Burke (A Change Is Gonna Come, 1986), Snooks Eaglin, Johnny Adams Anders Osborne and Al " Carnival" Johnson. Ernest was two decades, drummer for Dr. John and collaborated on several of his albums, such as Dr. John's Blue Note productions Duke Elegant ( 2000) ', Creole Moon and most recently in 2006 at the Johnny Mercer tribute album Mercernary, at the Ernest the Introduction to Come Rain or Come Shine speaks.

In 2004, he took with Herlin Riley, Johnny Vidacovich and Earl Palmer on an instructional DVD. Still in 2009 he joined with jazz trumpeter Jeremy Davenport and Kermit Ruffins on ( We'll Dance Til Dawn ), most recently in 2010 at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. He died in early March 2011 after many years of cancer.
