Hermann Baumann (musician)

Hermann Rudolph Konrad Baumann ( born August 1, 1934 in Hamburg ) is a German horn player.

Life

Baumann received in his youth piano and cello lessons, and was trained as a choir director. Moreover, it was, inter alia, He Jazz Drummer in the big band of Ernst Mosch.

Since it was the transportation of the drums, due to the post-war period with the handcart annoying, he began to study with the horn. His teacher was initially Heinrich Keller, then Fritz Huth at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Hamburg.

In his career as a solo horn player, he played from 1957 to 1961 in the Civic Orchestra of Dortmund and from 1961 to 1967 in the symphony orchestra of the Süddeutsche Rundfunk Stuttgart. He then began a solo career. In addition, he has participated in festivals in the United States, Vienna, Berlin and Salzburg.

Hermann Baumann has recorded, among others, the two horn concertos by Richard Strauss with Kurt Masur and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and several Telemann and Haydn concertos with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields and Iona Brown. He has taken on the modern concert with Pinchas Zuckerman horn and the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra as well as on the natural horn with the Concentus Musicus Wien conducted by Nikolaus Harnoncourt Mozart's horn concertos.

He served as Professor of Horn at the Folkwang Musikhochschule in Essen.

A merit of Baumann is his contribution to the revival of interest in baroque and classical natural horn interpretations. Thus he allowed the historical performance for the horn instrument in many fields.

But contemporary works found Baumann attention. About Hans Georg Pflüger's Concerto for Horn and Orchestra brought Hermann Baumann in 1983, together with the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra under Hans Zanotelli premiered. Also the music composed by Pflüger Impeto for horn and piano was brought in 1986 by Baumann heard.

Student

Baumann has taught numerous students at the Folkwang -Hochschule, and later in master classes and horn days.

They include, among others, Peter Arnold, Jürgen Bertelsmann ( NDR Symphony Orchestra ), Javier Bonet - Manrique, Wilhelm Bruns, Mahir Çakar, Christian Fitzner, Jakob Hefti, John Ritzkowsky ( Symphony Orchestra of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra ) and Paul van Zelm.
