Hermann Meyer-Rabingen

Hermann Meyer, from 1924 Meyer- Rabingen, ( August 7, * 1887 in Rotenburg ( Wümme ); † February 21, 1961 in Melle ) was a German officer, played Lieutenant General during World War II.

Biography

Meyer came on September 2, 1906 as a cadet in the Infantry Regiment " Markgraf Karl" ( 7 Brandenburg ) No 60. There he was promoted to lieutenant on January 27, 1908. On October 15, 1912 Meyer was assigned to the Seminar for Oriental Languages ​​in Berlin. Since 10 May 1913, he served in the Army in German East Africa at the 9th Field Company in Usumbura. There he rose to captain (since April 18, 1917 ) and department leader under the Commander of the Army for German East Africa Paul von Lettow -Vorbeck. After a prisoner of war and journey home Meyer retired in 1919 from the protection force. Short term, he served as chief, the third company in the Freikorps Lettow -Vorbeck.

Meyer was transferred to the Army and used in the 6th Infantry Regiment. He served there as head of the 7th company in Eutin. On April 1, 1930 he was promoted to Major and his transfer was followed by the staff of the 3rd Cavalry Division to Weimar.

In 1923 he changed his name to Meyer- Rabingen.

Then served Meyer- Rabingen as commander of the 431st Infantry Division and from 1 December 1939 to April 1, 1942 as a commander in the 197th Infantry Division. As a lieutenant general and commander of the 197th Infantry Division Meyer- Rabingen received on 12 January 1942, the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. He also served as commander of the 159th Reserve Division from September 20, 1942 to June 20, 1944.
