Hermann Ulrici

Hermann Ulrici ( born March 23, 1806 Pförten, Lower Lusatia; † January 11, 1884 in Halle / Saale ) was a German philosopher and Shakespeare scholar.

Life

Ulrici attended elementary school in Leipzig and the Friedrichwerdersche Gymnasium in Berlin. At his father's request, he studied law at Halle in 1824. There he became in 1823 a member of the Corps Saxonia. He moved to the Friedrich -Wilhelms -Universität zu Berlin, where he made the first examination. Auskultator clerk and he was in his native Frankfurt ( Oder).

He turned to philology and found his work in Berlin the applause of Wilhelm von Humboldt. After his habilitation in 1834 he was awarded a professorship in Halle, because of its now directed against Hegel philosophy but until 1861 a full professorship. 1867/68 he was rector of the University of Halle. On the last day of his deanship of the Faculty of Arts, he died at 78 of a stroke.
