Hermosillo is the capital of the Mexican state of Sonora and the municipality of Hermosillo and has 715 061 inhabitants ( 2010). The international airport of the city is a hub for flights from the USA to the Northwest of Mexico.

History

The town's origins date back to 1700, when it was still called Villa de Pitic. The present name was adopted only in 1828 in honor of General and independence fighter José María González de Hermosillo city. 1881 a railway line was opened from Hermosillo to Guaymas and with increasing trade and agriculture, the population increased to 14,000 by the end of the 19th century.

During the Mexican Revolution, the city was the capital of Mexico and seat of the Cabinet of Venustiano Carranza for several months.

Was a large fire in a kindergarten in the town of 43 infants were killed 5 June 2009, a Friday. In the period following the improvement of fire safety regulations for such facilities in the Mexican public has been discussed.
