Hiiu County

The circle Hiiu (Estonian Hiiu maakond or Hiiumaa, Hiiumaa German ) is a county ( maakond ) in Estonia. Both in terms of number of inhabitants of the area as it is the smallest of the 15 counties. It consists mainly of the second largest Estonian island of Hiiumaa and several smaller islands.

In the east Hiiu borders the Lääne, to the south by the Saare County and in the west and north by the Baltic Sea.

Geography

The circle Hiiu comprises the islands of Hiiumaa ( 965 km ²) and Kassari (19 km ² ) as well as other small islands. The highest elevation is the Tornimägi with 68 m. The longest river is the Luguse ( 21 km).

Community structure

The circle Hiiu is divided into the four rural municipalities ( vald ) Emmaste ( Emmast ), Hiiu, Käina ( Keinis ) and Pühalepa ( Pühhalep ).
