HMAS Rankin (SSG 78)

The HMAS Rankin (SSG 78 ) is the sixth and last built submarine of the Australian Collins class.

The ship is named after the naval officer Robert William Rankin. The Australian captain lieutenant fell in 1942 after the Battle of the Java Sea on the sloop HMAS Yarra.

The submarine was laid in 1995 in Osborne in Adelaide on keel and put into service in 2003.
