HMS Talisman ( N78 ) [A 1] was a submarine of the British Royal Navy. The warship was used in the Second World War, in 1942 in the Mediterranean lost.

Service history

See: History of Triton - class

The submarine could muster a French fishing vessel in one of his first patrols in November 1940. The hijacked ship was a short time before the Gironde for discreet observation of enemy submarine movements used and then brought to Falmouth.

From 1941 the submarine was used in the Mediterranean. On August 16, 1941, the Talisman attacked 140 nautical miles north-west of Alexandria to the British submarine HMS Otus. The erroneous torpedo attack failed and the Otus escaped unscathed. In the summer and autumn of 1941, the Talisman sank two sailing vessels and three larger freighters. An attack on the German freighter Salzburg on October 7, 1941 failed.

On September 10, 1942, the HMS Talisman left their base in Gibraltar. On September 15, 1942, she reported the sighting of a submarine off the Algerian coast. That was the last contact. Presumably, the Talisman was launched on September 17, 1942 in the Strait of Sicily on a sea mine. The submarine was officially declared as missing on 18 September.
