Hochleithen is a municipality with 1134 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the Mistelbach district in Lower Austria.

Geography

Hochleithen is around 10 km north of Wolkersdorf in the wine district in Lower Austria. The area of ​​the municipality covers 19.83 square kilometers. 6.82 percent of the area is forested.

History

World War II

In the last days of World War II Hochleithen and its cadastral scene of fierce fighting between troops and eventful of the Wehrmacht and the Red Army. In Bogenneusiedl a low-flying Soviet attack on a German artillery took place on 15 April 1945, which killed civilians and several buildings were destroyed. In Traunfeldmühle it came to tough defensive battles the Germans using tanks and light artillery against strong, provided with Stalonorgeln Soviet troops. Only after heavy mortar fire the Soviets succeeded, on 16 April to take the place, where 21 buildings were completely destroyed. In Wolfpassing three civilians died in the course of changing hostilities killed, 51 buildings were destroyed by fire.

Population Development

According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 1084 inhabitants. In 1991, the municipality had 1026 inhabitants, 1981 and 1014 in 1971, 1014 inhabitants.

Mayor of the municipality is Ing Adolf Mechtler, office manager Franz Schwab.

In the council there after the municipal elections of 14 March 2010, a total of 19 seats following distribution of seats: 12 ÖVP, SPÖ 6, FPÖ 1, no other seats.
