The Hohenkarpfen

The Hohenkarpfen ( around only called carp ) is a 912.4 m above sea level. On the Baar plateau between the villages of Hausen ob Verena, Gunningen and Seitingen- Oberflacht, the two former villages symbolically lead NHN high mountains of the Swabian Alb witnesses the Hohenkarpfen as carp fish in the municipal coat of arms. He is just a few kilometers from the escarpment to the Trinity Mountain and on the other side of Lupfen - another witness mountain - away.

The counts of Lupfen talked originally a castle on the Hohenkarpfen, the castle Hohenkarpfen, but which was razed and nothing of which has been preserved.

Today the High carp is a popular tourist destination due to its picturesque conical form and the view over the Baar and up in the Black Forest. Since the 1930s, the peak area is a nature reserve.

Nationwide awareness has Kunststiftung Hohenkarpfen, which maintains a museum on the Hohenkarpfen.
