The Hohenzollern is a prominent, 855 -meter-high mountain near Hechingen, Baden- Württemberg. The summit of the mountain with the Hohenzollern Castle is located on the boundary of rooms, which today is a little haven of community Bisingen, the northern flank of the mountain is one of Hechingen. On its slopes grows a near-natural beech forest.

Geography

The Hohenzollern is upstream of the escarpment of the Swabian Alb. The mountain is geographically a witness mountain, which is located in a geological fault zone, the Hohenzollern Graben so-called. The grave inner terrain was less severely eroded by relief inversion than the surroundings, and so remained, among others, the Zeller Horn, the upstream Hohenzollern and northwest receive them the Wilhelmhöhe.

History

For the year 1061 the name was first mentioned in the chronicle of Berthold of Reichenau, this is called Burchardus and Wezil " de Zolorin " that had fallen.
