Zollernalbkreis

The Zollernalbkreis is a district in Baden- Württemberg. He, together with the district of Reutlingen and Tübingen district of the Neckar-Alb region in the district of Tübingen. Geographical location

The Zollernalbkreis has a share in three landscapes of the southwest German cuesta land: the Upper Gaeu in the northwest, the Albvorland in the central area and the Swabian Alb in the southeast. In the north of the county boundary almost to the Neckar enough, in the southeast almost to the Danube.

Particularly striking in the landscape is the aligned towards the northwest end stages of the Swabian Alb - the so-called Albtrauf. Its steep slopes are mostly forested and interspersed with rugged cliffs such as the hole Hoernle ( in Balingen ) or the hanging wall of stone ( in Albstadt- Onstmettingen ). The Albtrauf achieved in the field of Zollernalb with about 400 meters its maximum height. He cuts across the district area and divides it into two approximately equal halves. Slightly less pronounced is the also mostly forested Keuper Bergland, whose step edge the Albvorland separates from the Gäulandschaft.

Geology

Nearly 200 million years covered in what is now the Zollernalb is a sea - the Jurassic sea. Fossils from this period can be seen ( between Balingen and Rottweil on the B 27) in the fossil museum of the cement plant in Dotternhausen.

History

The Zollernalbkreis was the district reform on 1 January 1973 by the union of the district Balingen with most communities of the county Hechingen (some also came to the enlarged district of Freudenstadt ) and a municipality of the district of Sigmaringen ( Strassberg with the incorporated on December 1, 1971 Kaiser Ingen ) formed. On 1 February 1973, the municipality Schörzingen was incorporated by the district of Rottweil, in the Zollernalbkreis because it was incorporated into the city Schomberg. Between 1990 and 1994 there was a management partnership with the county Freital in Saxony, but this ended after the Saxon county reform.

The district council is elected by the voters in the district for five years. The municipal election held on 7 June 2009 resulted in a turnout of 48.4 % following distribution of seats ( unchanged 61 seats):

District

The District 's legal representative and a representative of the district as well as Chairman of the County Council and its committees. Meaning: The front half of the picture shows the coat of arms of the Hohenzollern. Until 1945 the area was part of Hechingen in 1850 came by inheritance to Prussia Hohenzollern country. The stag antlers symbolize Württemberg, which included the area around Balingen.

Tourism

The Zollernalb belongs to the highest part of the Swabian Alb and therefore opened when the weather permits distant view to the Alps or the Black Forest. The region is heavily developed with signposted hiking and cycling trails. The tourist routes Hohenzollern road Roman road Neckar- Alb- Aare and Swabian Alb Route and the Swabian Alb - North Rand road passing through the Zollernalbkreis.

The cities Albstadt, Balingen, Burladingen, Haigerloch and Hechingen offer besides museums, exhibitions, theaters and concerts also well preserved partially historical inner cities.

Traffic

The Württemberg State Railways opened in 1869 first the route from Tübingen to Hechingen; it was extended to 1874 and 1878 to Balingen Ebingen and Sigmaringen.

In Hechingen crosses the Hohenzollerische Landesbahn, who continued their routes from here in 1901 after Burladingen and 1908 in Sigmaringen, while in 1912 the west went to Stetten, where since 1901 there was a connection to Haigerloch - Eyach.
