Hoher Kranzberg (Wettersteingebirge)

High Kranzberg (green hill in the foreground ), in the background the weather stone wall and the bottom left of the Schmalensee

The High Kranzberg is at an altitude of 1391 m, a small mountain in the west of Mittenwald. It is to the east by Mittenwald, bounded on the west by the Elmau, to the north by Schmalensee and Buckelwiesen and on the south by Lautersee and Ferchensee. The mountain is accessible through many trails. Starting points for hiking are usually of 980 m above sea level parking lot of the chairlift and the Elmau. The 1950 -built Pohlig, 1450 m long chair lift for one person reaches to the mountain inn St. Anton (1200 m), from there used to lead the Kranzberg - summit lift to the summit.

On the north side there is a ski area with several ski lifts. For several years, is being discussed, to replace them with more modern chair lifts or cable cars. But problems with financing, conservation and local residents prevented until now an implementation.

Set in the woods above the Lauter Lake there is a boulder which came into place during the Ice Age. As a witness for the then held relocations applies the stone as a natural monument and is under protection.
