Homestead Records

Homestead Records was a U.S. record label, which existed from 1983 to 1996.

History

The label was founded in New York. It was a sub- label of Dutch East India Trading acted as the distribution of experimental music and various own label spawned. Not much is known about the Homstead label. It had over the years, five managers, including Gerard Cosloy belonged, who along with Chris Lombardi of Dutch East India Trading in 1990 founded the label Matador Records. The last manager Steven Joerg expanded the catalog of the labels to jazz artists. In 1996, Homestead Records was abandoned. Steven Joerg subsequently founded the small jazz label AUM Fidelity.

Focus

The Homestead label put an emphasis on rock music American bands that were influenced guitar -oriented and strongly influenced by punk. Some bands represented on the label are considered important influence for the grunge and noise rock. Among the most important were the publications of Dinosaur Jr., Big Black, Phantom Tollbooth, GG Allin, Happy Flowers, Squirrel Bait, Bastro, Green River and Sebadoh. However, the catalog of the label also included publications by Rhys Chatham, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Einstürzende Neubauten, The Chills and Tall Dwarfs.
