The Upper Steel Arch Bridge, also known as the Fallsview Bridge or Honeymoon Bridge, was a road bridge between Canada and the United States. The bridge led across the gorge of the Niagara River north of Niagara Falls and 168 meters south of the present-day Rainbow Bridge. She joined the American city of Niagara Falls, New York and the Canadian city of Clifton, of Falls in the province of Ontario from 1903 was part of the newly formed Canadian city of Niagara.

Construction

The Upper Steel Arch Bridge was a two- hinged steel arch bridge with a large central arch bridge, the 256 meters at the time had the world's longest span. The elevated roadway on the sheet was connected to one fish belly carrier with the high banks.

History

The bridge was designed by the bridge engineer Leffert L. Buck. Construction began in 1897, in 1898 it was opened to traffic.

With the construction of a hydroelectric power plant in the area of the falls, new electrically powered rail vehicles were needed on both sides of the river. The wooden pavement of the new steel arch bridge was designed to carry railway vehicles of the Great Gorge Scenic Railway.
