Honoré Daumet

Pierre Jérôme Honoré Daumet ( born October 23, 1826 in Paris, † December 12, 1911 in Paris) was a French architect.

Life

Daumet graduated from the École nationale supérieure des beaux -arts de Paris and was Prix de Rome winner for Architecture of the year 1855. As a member of the Department of Fine Arts of the Archaeological Institute of France in Athens, the École française d' Athènes Daumet adopted in 1861 excavations of Léon Heuzey in Macedonia in part, the Napoleon III. had given out of interest in the battlefields of Gaius Julius Caesar and in particular at the Battle of Pharsalus in order. The excavation brought insights into the hitherto little explored archaeologically region and enriched the Louvre to some exhibits; the quality of the drawings, who prepared Daumet in this mission, make the excavations to date famous.

From 1862 Daumet began teaching architecture. Parallel to this, he held the position of Inspector - Général des Bâtiments Civils. From 1867 he assisted Louis Joseph Duc in the construction of the Palais de Justice in Paris and introduced the work after the death Ducs on. Commissioned by Henri d' Orléans, he led the reconstruction of the castle Chantilly. In 1885 Daumet was elected member of the Institut de France.

His students included Charles Girault, Frantz Jourdain, Mac Kim, Walter -André Destailleur and Hector d' Espouy. Daumet was married to the daughter of the architect Charles Questel. With the sculptor Henri Michel Chapu he formed a close friendship.
