Hora Svatého Václava

Hora Svatého Václava ( German mountain ) is a municipality with a population of 58 in the Czech Republic. It is 5 km northwest of Poběžovice in 572 m on the eastern slope of the Upper Palatinate Forest. The land area is 765 ha

Geography

The village is located on the edge of the Natural Park of Český les. Neighboring towns are Sidlakov in the West, Drahotín in the east, the south and Načetín Šibanov in the southwest.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1239 and was probably made in an old fortress. The Church of St. Wenceslas is provable since 1384, already at that time it was the parish church.

Mountain was initially the castle Hirschenstein submissive, after the extinction of deer Steiner came to power Teinitz. 1587 was the village from six yards. 1707 a new parish and school house was built in the mountain, which was referred to in ancient texts as Bergium or Mons St.Wenceslai built. 1788 was the church, which had been temporarily assigned to the monastery Stockau again the status of a parish church. 1839 had 173 inhabitants of the village. Mountain formed from the mid-19th century, a municipality in the district court or in the district Ronsperg Bischofteinitz.

The inhabitants of the place lived by agriculture, the cultivation of flax played a major role, and the flax mill. In addition, some residents earned in the Upper Palatinate Forest glassworks their livelihood. 1913 lived 165 people in mountain. The rectory burnt down in 1927 and was rebuilt in 1932.

At the mountain were at this time the districts Schiefernau and Zeisermühl. The predominantly German -speaking population was expelled after 1945.

The Church of St. Wenceslas was declared a monument, it is in a bad state of construction.
