Horse Guards (building)

Horse Guards is a building in London between Whitehall and Horse Guards Parade.

It was built in 1751-1753 in the style of the Palladian style by John Vardy, designed by William Kent in the place had been at the building of the wax previously spent Palace of Whitehall.

By 1904 in the building of the General Staff of the British Army was housed. Since then, it serves as the headquarters of the Guards Division and the District London the British Army.

Horse Guards is considered formally as an entrance to St. James 's Palace; allowed to drive through the central archway, therefore, only members of the British Royal Family.

On buildings stand at the Whitehall side facing always two soldiers of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment Guard; changing of the guard takes place every hour. During the day when the guard is mounted, this is a popular motif for tourists.
