Hortobágy

The Hortobágy National Park Hortobágy Hungarian Nemzeti Park, is Hungary's first and largest contiguous National Park. It was founded on 1 January 1973 on an area of 52,000 hectares and has been continually expanded to 82,000 ha. In 1979, the core with 32,037 ha Ramsar site ( Wetland of International Importance, No. 189/3HU008 ). In the same year he was also recognized as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve ( 52,000 ha, HUN02 ). 1999, the park was included in the World Heritage List. In 2011 he was recognized as a light reserve of the International Dark Sky Association International Dark Sky Park as ( IDSP in silver), and is called since then Hortobágyi Csillagoségbolt park (English Hortobágyi Starry - Sky Park ). He was the first UNESCO World Heritage Site, which was also light reserve.

Location and Landschsaft

The Hortobágy Puszta is the largest and most well-known Central European steppes. Here 90 percent of the native bird species occur. There are to find rare and strictly protected species, such as bustards, Red-footed Falcon, Ferruginous Ducks, several species of herons, cormorants, Pratincoles, sea eagles and autumn 2009 to more than 100,000 cranes.
