Hotchkiss School

The Hotchkiss School is one of the most prestigious and affluent high schools in the United States. It has its headquarters in Lakeville, Connecticut.

It was founded in 1891 at the instigation of the then president of Yale, Timothy Dwight V., by Mary Harrison Bitchell Hotchkiss. Since 1974, even girls will be admitted to the original boys' school. The campus comprises about 2.2 km ² ( 545 acres), is picturesquely situated between two lakes and partly wooded. It also includes a sports complex opened in 2002 and a golf course.

In the school year 2006/ 07, the school has 555 students ( according to other sources 574 ), of which 10 % are foreigners. 91 % of students ( according to other sources 89 %) live on the school grounds ( boarding school ) while the remainder attend school only during the day.

To ( $ 29,925 including accommodation in a boarding school, both of 2005), the 25,450 U.S. dollars tuition per year raise, receive about 35% of the student financial aid from the school, a total of about 4.2 million U.S. dollars ( according to other sources 4, 98 million ). 72% of 120 teachers ( according to other sources, 68% of 127 ) have a degree beyond a Bachelor's degree, which is not required in the U.S. for teachers.
